Overlooking the serene shoreline of Long Island Sound, 38 miles south of Hartford and equidistant between New York and Boston, lies the town of Clinton. The community maintains its seaside New England charm from its shipbuilding days in the 19th century, yet it's a comfortable commuting distance from the metropolitan and industrial centers of New Haven, Middletown, and New London. Clinton's 17.8 square miles includes miles of pristine beachfront, enjoyed by the town's inhabitants and visitors all year round. Clinton's 13,800+ residents are governed by a Board of Selectmen/Town Meeting form of government.
Educational, Cultural, and Recreational Facilities
Clinton's children are educated at four excellent public schools, including one high school (grades 9-12), one middle school (grades 6-8), one intermediate school (grades 4-5), and one primary school (grades Pre-K-3). Special services for the disabled; accelerated classes for exceptional students, and evening adult classes are also featured. Between 22 and 30 miles away are the prestigious Universities of Yale, Quinnipiac, and Wesleyan.
Because of its advantageous location along the Long Island Sound, nautical cultural facilities abound in Clinton from the Town Marina Boat Launch to the Town Marina itself. This popular boat launch provides direct access to Clinton Harbor; the Hammonasset River; and the waters off Clinton, Madison, and Westbrook.
Clinton's Parks & Recreation Department features many year-round activities for both young and old, including movie nights, summer camp, swimming lessons, boating lessons, acting lessons, tennis lessons, basketball camps for boys and girls, and nearly every aquatic activity under the sun. The town boasts over 400 acres of preserved woodlands and salt marshes for naturalist and adventurous hikers. Beachgoing recreation includes boating, waterskiing, swimming, fishing, and sunbathing. Clinton is also known for its bustling downtown, which includes many outlet mall shops, that bring shoppers from all over the area for great discounts on high-end goods.
